1. Purpose
The Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) is a state trade association representing full-power TV and radio stations across Kansas for more than 75 years. Our mission is to promote free, over-the-air broadcasting to enhance the success of Kansas broadcasters and help them better serve their communities. We advocate for broadcasters at the state and federal levels, provide education and training, recruit new industry talent, and celebrate excellence through our annual awards.
The Programs & Member Relations Director works closely with the KAB President to manage key member programs, foster member engagement, and support events and communications that contribute to the success of Kansas broadcasters.
2. Responsibilities (examples listed below, along with other duties as assigned)
Events & Meetings
- Assist in the planning and execution of all KAB events, including the annual convention, sports seminar and career fair, in-person seminars, community market visits, and virtual webinars.
- Manage all event logistics, including site selection, contract negotiation, speaker coordination, promotion, registration, exhibitor relations, A/V, food and beverage, décor, entertainment, and on-site support.
- Oversee on-site registration and liaise with venue staff and third-party vendors to ensure smooth operations.
- Support transportation, set up, and breakdown for all in-person events.
- Coordinate KAB Congressional meetings for the annual Washington D.C. trip and State Day on the Hill.
- Prepare materials for KAB board meetings, annual meetings, and other organizational gatherings, including board packets and foundation scholarship materials.
- Create promotional graphics for newsletters and social media.
Program Management
- Oversee the implementation and daily operation of KAB’s Public Education Partnership (PEP) Program, Alternate Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP), Awards Programs, Internship Program, and Digital Ambassador Program.
Public Education Partnership (PEP) Program
- Maintain the PEP database of participating stations and key contacts.
- Compile and distribute KAB materials and traffic instructions for each campaign.
- Coordinate creative production requests for clients.
- Track and summarize campaign traffic monthly.
- Receive and review affidavits, invoices, and compile reports for PEP partners.
- Create promotional graphics for newsletters and social media.
Alternate Broadcast Inspection (ABIP) Program
- Maintain a database of past and upcoming inspections.
- Send quarterly reminders regarding ABIP expiration and renewal.
- Coordinate station inspection requests with the KAB inspector and issue completion certificates.
- Create promotional graphics for newsletters and social media.
Awards Programs (Student & Station Awards)
- Update the annual Call for Entries and oversee the entry portal throughout the submission period.
- Review all entries for completeness, eligibility, and functionality.
- Liaise with judges, track winners, and coordinate trophy production.
- Inspect awards upon receipt and assist with logistics for the KAB Station Awards Dinner.
- Create promotional graphics for newsletters and social media.
KAB-Funded Internship Program
- Promote internship opportunities and deadlines to member stations each spring, summer, and fall.
- Assist in selecting participating stations and track program participation.
- Maintain the internship history worksheet and distribute post-program surveys.
- Summarize feedback and share results with participating supervisors.
- Create promotional graphics for newsletters and social media.
KAB-Funded Ambassador Programs
- Oversee the KAB Ambassador Program, including recruitment, training, supervision, and engagement.
- Conduct interviews via Zoom and host annual training sessions.
- Organize three check-in meetings per semester and collect ambassador reports.
- Manage program promotion and deadlines and oversee ambassadors’ participation at KAB events.
- Send appreciation gifts at term completion and maintain the Ambassador History worksheet.
- Create promotional graphics for newsletters and social media.
Digital Ambassador Program
- Coordinate with the University of Kansas and the KAB President on student recruitment and selection.
- Prepare and distribute promotional materials and application forms.
- Arrange housing for Ambassadors assigned to local communities.
- Facilitate coordination meetings and ensure timely submission of program reports.
- Create promotional graphics for newsletters and social media.
Member Relations & Communications
- Manage the KAB member database and oversee the annual membership renewal process.
- Support the monthly e-newsletter, The Transmitter, by drafting, editing, and distributing updates via Mailchimp.
- Oversee KAB’s website, social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Instagram), and job board.
- Maintain consistent and engaging communication with members, partners, and the public.
3. Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3–5+ years of experience in event planning and membership management, with a background in broadcasting, nonprofit, association management, or corporate environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and strong data organization skills.
- Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building abilities.
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and willingness to learn new initiatives and systems.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within Kansas and occasionally to other state and national conventions and conferences.
Preferred
- Experience with MailChimp, QuickBooks, Billing.com, Adobe, Canva, Hootsuite, Asana, and GrowthZone (or similar membership, expense, or creative management software).
- Proficiency in social media management across multiple platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Instagram).
- Prior experience in awards events, seminars, and career fair coordination or association operations.

5. Job Type
Full-time hybrid position: 3 days in office / 2 days remote after onboarding.
Office located in downtown Topeka, KS, in the newly renovated Townsite Towers on Kansas Avenue. Includes a private office, on-site café, and paid-covered parking.
6. Compensation
$50,000 – $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience, including bonus potential.
