1. Purpose

The Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) is a state trade association representing full-power TV and radio stations across Kansas for more than 75 years. Our mission is to promote free, over-the-air broadcasting to enhance the success of Kansas broadcasters and help them better serve their communities.

We advocate for broadcasters at the state and federal levels, provide education and training, recruit new industry talent, and celebrate excellence through our annual awards.

The Programs & Member Relations Director works closely with the KAB President to manage key member programs, foster member engagement, and support events and communications that contribute to the success of Kansas broadcasters.


2. Responsibilities

Events & Meetings

  • Assist in planning and execution of all KAB events, including the annual convention, sports seminar and career fair, in-person seminars, and virtual webinars.
  • Oversee site selection, contract negotiation, promotion, speakers, registration, exhibitors, A/V, food and beverage, décor, entertainment, logistics, and on-site support.
  • Coordinate KAB Congressional visits in Kansas and Washington, D.C.
  • Assist with board meetings and the annual meeting.

Ambassador & Internship Programs

  • Recruit, train, and manage KAB Ambassadors, Digital Ambassadors, and interns.
  • Coordinate schedules, meetings, and program reporting.

Program Management

  • Oversee implementation of key KAB initiatives, including the Public Education Partnership (PEP) advertising program, Alternate Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP), student and station awards, and internship programs.
  • Maintain databases, coordinate communications, compile reports, manage billing and dues collection, and ensure timelines are met.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for members, partners, inspectors, judges, exhibitors, and program participants.

Member Relations & Communications

  • Manage KAB’s member database and annual renewal process.
  • Support the monthly e-newsletter, The Transmitter.
  • Oversee KAB’s website, job board, and social media presence across multiple platforms.


3. Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in event planning and membership management, with a background in broadcasting, nonprofit, association management, or corporate environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and strong data organization skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to travel within Kansas and occasionally to U.S.-based conventions and conferences.

Preferred

  • Experience with MailChimp, QuickBooks, Billing.com, Adobe, Canva, Hootsuite, Asana, and GrowthZone (or similar membership management software).
  • Social media management experience across Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and Instagram.
  • Prior involvement in professional association or event operations.

5. Job Type

Full-time hybrid position: 3 days in office / 2 days remote after onboarding.

Office located in downtown Topeka, KS, in the newly renovated Townsite Towers on Kansas Avenue. Includes a private office, on-site café, and paid covered parking.


6. Compensation

$50,000 – $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience, including bonus potential.
