News Radio KMAN (1350 AM, 93.3 & 93.7 FM), the voice of Manhattan and the Flint Hills, has an immediate opening for a dedicated, experienced and motivated News Director to lead our award-winning newsroom. This role requires a strong journalist with leadership skills, a passion for local news, and the ability to deliver engaging content on-air and online.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the production of daily newscasts, digital content, and social media updates.

Serve as co-anchor of KMAN’s Morning News weekdays from 6–9 a.m.

Lead newsroom operations, assigning and editing stories while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic ethics.

Build and maintain a strong network of news sources and contacts across Manhattan, Riley County, and surrounding communities.

Report on local government, community events, and breaking news in a clear, accurate, and concise manner, both on-air and online.

Represent KMAN at meetings, press conferences, and community events, which may occasionally occur evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

Strong background in journalism, with experience in broadcast, print, or digital media.

Demonstrated understanding of journalistic ethics and AP style.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to manage deadlines and lead a newsroom with confidence and professionalism.

Experience in radio production tools such as Adobe Audition and Wide Orbit preferred (training provided if needed).

Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives on local news coverage, understands the importance of community-focused journalism, and can balance leadership with on-air performance. A working knowledge of city, county, and school district government is a plus.
